This September, the Seychelles Alzheimer's Foundation is turning World Alzheimer's Month into a month you won't forget.
A celebration of courage, community and hope. Under the banner Remembering Together, we're inviting every member of the public, every family, and every caregiver across Seychelles to stand with us. Because the truth at the heart of everything we do is this:
The earlier you know, the more you can do.
Early diagnosis empowers choices. It inspires hope. And it starts with all of us learning the signs and showing up for one another. From art galleries to sponsored walks, from music that reaches memory to a monument glowing purple against the night sky, we've planned a full month of activities. Some will move you. Some will move your feet. All of them will make a difference, and we'd love for you to be part of every one.
Here's what's happening.
🎨 Official Art Exhibition Opening — Tuesday 2nd September, 17:00hrs
Kenwyn House Art Gallery
We're opening the month with something truly special: an exhibition of creative work made exclusively by people living with dementia. Come and see the talent, imagination and personality shining through every piece. This is art that tells a story and reminds us that a diagnosis never dims the spark inside a person. Bring a friend. Bring your curiosity. Come and be inspired.
🧩 Games Therapy Session: Thursday 4th September, 10:00hrs to 12:00hrs
DA's Hall, Plaisance
Laughter, connection and brain-boosting fun. Interactive cognitive games and puzzles designed for people living with dementia and their caregivers to enjoy side by side. It's therapy that doesn't feel like therapy – just lovely company and wonderful moments.
❤️ Distribution of Stickers: Thursday 4th September, 09:00hrs to 12:00hrs
STC Supermarket
Wear the cause with pride. We'll be out in the community raising awareness, raising funds and rallying support for individuals living with dementia. Stop by; grab a sticker, make a donation, and help us paint the town in solidarity.
🎵 Music Therapy Session: Thursday 18th September, 10:00hrs to 12:00hrs
DA's Hall, Plaisance
There's a reason a familiar song can light up a face. Music reaches places words sometimes can't. Join us for a morning of beloved melodies and rhythmic activities that engage, uplift and reconnect. Prepare for smiles, maybe a tear or two, and a whole lot of heart.
👟 Sponsored Walk: Saturday 20th September, 09:00hrs
Starting at Anse Royale
Lace up and walk with us! Members, families and caregivers coming together for a charity walk to raise vital funds for dementia support services. Every step counts, every step matters, and every step you take helps someone living with dementia take theirs. Grab your sponsors, gather your crew, and let's move together.
💜 Lighting of a Landmark Monument: Sunday 21st September (World Alzheimer's Day), 10:00hrs
On World Alzheimer's Day, we'll illuminate a prominent local monument in purple, a glowing symbol of solidarity that connects Seychelles to millions around the globe standing for dementia awareness. Wear purple. Snap a photo. Share it with everyone. Let's make our island glow.
📻 Radio & Television Interviews: Dates & Time To Be Confirmed
Tune in! Live discussions on local stations to spread the word about early detection and to challenge the stigma that too often surrounds dementia. Keep an eye on our page for the schedule and don't miss the conversation.
🥂 Fundraising Dinner Dance: Saturday 26th September, from 19:00hrs
Augerine Hotel
We're closing the month in style! An unforgettable evening of fine dining, live music, an exciting auction and dancing under the stars, all to bring our community together and raise funds for dementia care initiatives. Dress up, show up, and dance for a cause. Tables are limited, so book early!
This month only works because of people like you. If you're a member, we're calling on you to roll up your sleeves and lend a hand. Whether it's greeting guests at the art exhibition, cheering on walkers at Anse Royale, handing out stickers at STC, or helping our dinner dance run smoothly your time is one of the most powerful gifts you can give.
Volunteering isn't just about helping us. It's about being part of something bigger: a community that refuses to let anyone face dementia alone. Come and help. Bring your energy, bring your family, and help us make 'Remembering Together' a reality.
Behind every activity this month is one simple, life-changing message:
Learn the signs. Seek answers early. Support today. Change tomorrow.
A dementia diagnosis matters because knowing sooner means living better, planning ahead, and accessing the support that makes all the difference. Together, we can turn awareness into action, and fear into hope.
